Codeblocks isn't running properly on my Macbook Pro Mid-2012

Codeblocks itself runs funny - requires me to click things multiple times before it works, the terminal doesn't seem to be working as expected (a simple Hello World program doesn't reflect properly as it would on a PC's cmd prompt), randomly crashes, etc. I've installed all the "necessary" applications I'm told to have (XCodes, XCodes Command Lines, etc). I'm currently trying to run an Assignment I'm doing in my CS1 class, that otherwise works on my desktop PC. Keep in mind, though I'm not computer illiterate whatsoever, but I am new to Mac. I've searched far and wide and have no idea, nor does my campus's help desk, or my instructor - as to why all of these things are happening? Please help! It'd be convenient to utilize my recently bought Macbook Pro on campus, versus having to wait til I get home to code. Thanks in advanced for any help!
